It reads: A three-session on-line poetic medicine program Presented by John Fox, PPM Tuesdays, May 21, 28, June 3, 2024 - 11am-1pm Pacific (This program is free) In this three-session journey, participants are invited to express the fresh, creative sensibility and playfulness you knew as a child and the unique, adult voice that has ripened over the years. We will use evocative poems as our catalyst to our own creativity. These poems will come from cancer survivors, healing poets, and children. The fierce storms you weather while dealing with cancer, your focus on regaining your health, your own style of coping with illness, of thriving in the midst of challenge, the full range of feelings you have, the people who make a difference in your life, your sense of what matters most in your life--all these deserve attention, expression, and a place in your life. We will slow down and in a safe place make time to put this on the page. Sharing our poems (an invitation, not required) with one another will help relieve isolation and nourish healing community. These sessions are for patients, surviviors, and caregivers of people with cancer, No previous experience in writing poetry is required. Session One: The Art of Listening and Slowing Down--How listening can be our trusted companion in the healing process. Session Two: Making a Sacred Container, Creating a Path--The capacity of our own words to help us meet and soften pain, doubt and the unknown--opening a pathway to truth, hope, insight and grace. Session Three: A Safe Circle for You and Your Writing--The sacred place that creativity has on this healing journey--bringing our poems from our sessions to the community circle. | John Fox is a poet, educator, and author. His books include "Finding What You Didn't Lose: Expressing Your Truth and Creativity through Poem-Making" (1995) and "Poetic Medicine: The Healing Art of Poem-Making" (1997). His work is featured in the 2008 PBS documentary "Healing Words: Poetry & Medicine". John has brought poetry-as-healer to cancer support communities across the United States and is an old friend of us at Cancer Lifeline. He is Founder of The Institute for Poetic Medicine, a nonprofit that provides poetry-as-healer to marginalized communities and people across the United States and around the world.
