“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished."

~ Lao Tzu

A Seed

A seed is

Sleeping

In the earth.

Let it grow.

Let it grow into a tree.

~ Khalil Gibran

To Plant a Seed

Plant a seed and watch it grow -

A tiny life that starts so small.

With sunlight, water, and love it will thrive,

Reaching upward, standing tall.

~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Love's Garden

Love's garden is a sanctuary where hearts unite,

A place where tender seeds find their solace and light.

With each gentle touch and each whispered word,

Love's blossoms grow, their fragrance softly heard.

~ Emily Dickinson

The Seeds of Love

The seeds of love were planted deep,

Within our souls, they chose to sleep.

But with care and gentle touch,

They sprouted, bloomed, and meant so much.

~William Blake

Seeds of Love

Plant the seeds of love, let them take root,

In the fertile soil of each heart they suit.

Water them with kindness, watch them grow,

With love's guiding light, they'll flourish and glow.

~ Langston Hughes

The Sower

The sower walks down the furrows:

His hand lets fall the golden grain:

The grain that is to be gathered

After the sowing comes the harvest.

~ Victor Hugo

Dear Poetry of Nature Friends,

My heart is brimming with seed energy. On the equinox I was able to harvest seeds from my Pacific Northwest Flowering Dogwood. These seeds, like the poems and excerpts above, speak to me about resilience, personal growth, hope and love. These seeds remind that they need autumn's bustle, and winter's stillness in order to germinate and thrive. I find that I too need, "to sleep in the earth", as Gibran says. Indeed it's that time of year when I feel myself turning inward, called by Earth to reap winters stillness and rejuvenation.

This month I invite you to join me. Consider nurturing seeds through autumn and winter, and longer if they require it! Imagine, like Blake and Hughes speak of, that you are sowing seeds of love! These can be physical or inner seeds. You could tend bulbs, ideas, metaphors. The list is endless! Choose something you're curious about and would like to be present to along this transformative journey of life, especially when it seems so still! Just as a tiny seed can sprout into a tree, you too possess endless potential to sprout and blossom into something beautiful!
