Our Graduates
The Certification Program offered by The Institute for Poetic Medicine is a rigorous three-phase course incorporating experiential poetic medicine, training as a facilitator, and hours of practicum and research. The program began in 2012 and has awarded Certificates of Completion to these Practitioners of Poetic Medicine.

Cyra Dumitru, PPM
San Antonio, Texas | she/her
Cyra Dumitru is a lifelong poet, former Poet-in-the-Schools with the San Antonio Independent School District and many other schools, freelance medical writer and a full-time faculty member in the Department of English and Communication Studies at St. Mary’s University. In 2011, she was awarded the Alice Wright Fanzke Feminist Award for Excellence in Teaching at St. Mary’s University.
Barbara Kulle, PPM

Barbara has a depth of maturity that recognizes the unique and sacred nature of each person. Her practice, rooted in that respectful recognition (rather than in some generalized way) allows her work with poetry to act as a catalyst to your creative spark.
Birch Dwyer, PPM
Portland, Oregon | she/her
Birch believes that magic is afoot when people write together. She delights in creating a space in which people feel safe enough to explore the wild edges of their writing, give voice to their truth, and be nourished by the gifts of a supportive community. She hopes that after taking part in a circle, you feel more connected to yourself and to others, empowered, and alive.
